How to Use the Online Eye Test Chart

  • Position yourself at a distance of 10-20 feet (3-6 meters) from your screen
  • Use the calibration ruler to ensure proper sizing of the chart
  • Test one eye at a time (cover the other eye with your hand or card)
  • Start reading from the top line and proceed downward
  • The smallest line you can read accurately determines your visual acuity
  • For printing, use the print button for a properly formatted chart

Important Notes

  • This online eye test is not a substitute for a professional eye examination
  • If you experience difficulty reading the smaller lines, consult an eye care professional
  • For best results, ensure proper lighting and screen brightness
  • The calibration ruler helps adjust the chart to the correct physical size
  • Children's test charts use simple pictures for those who cannot read letters
  • The "Tumbling E" chart is useful for non-readers or international users

Understanding Visual Acuity Results

  • 20/20 vision is considered normal visual acuity
  • 20/40 means you must be 20 feet away to see what a person with normal vision can see at 40 feet
  • 20/200 or worse (in your better eye with correction) is considered legally blind in the US
  • If your result is below 20/40, you should consult an optometrist or ophthalmologist
